The Greater Adjutant Stork—An Endangered Species

The Greater Adjutant Stork is a large bird with a yellowish patch beneath its neck. There are less than 1200 of these birds left in the world. They are found only in Assam, India. These storks usually live in plains that are flooded by the Brahmaputra River.

One big problem is that villagers cut down the trees where these birds make their nests. Also, people steal their eggs or eat them because they think the eggs are a delicacy. The storks often eat garbage, which makes them look dirty and unhygienic.

We need to protect these birds and their habitats to help them survive.
